Like most young kids, I used to wake up early on Saturday mornings, fix myself a big bowl of cereal and settle in on the couch to watch some cartoons. My favourites were Scooby Doo and the Super Friends.
I hated the commercial breaks. Not because they interrupted my show, but rather, because every other commercial seemed to be about a bunch of kids having a great ol’ time eating Count Chocula or Frosted Flakes or Apple Jacks. And there I sat, green with envy, eating Corn Flakes – boring, soggy, crappy, Corn Flakes.
My mother never bought the fun cereals – never even considered it.
And, you can rest assured her decision had nothing to do with dietary concerns or sugar content. Her decision was 100% price driven!
So, imagine my delight, one Saturday morning when I opened the cabinet and there, right before my very eyes, was a huge box of Cap’n Crunch!
I quickly realized there was no way Cap’n Crunch was going to be making its way into ‘regular rotation’ in the Krpan household. So, this was the precise moment where I learned the concepts of regulation and rationing.
Cap’n Crunch became a 10-year-old boy’s delicacy – enjoyed only on Saturdays – never during the week!
I’d fill a bowl with Corn Flakes and strategically place a small handful of Cap’n Crunch pieces on top! Remarkably, I stretched that box for 3 or 4 months!
What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Not much, really.
