Ralph Lifshitz was born October 14, 1939, in the Bronx, New York. Raised in a working-class neighborhood, he worked as a part-time stock boy at a department store. At the age of 16, Ralph legally changed his last name as a result of being bullied at school. In the early 1960s, Ralph landed a job as a tie salesman for Brooks Brothers. Full of ambition, he launched his own line of neckties in 1967 and his first breakthrough came when the department store, Neiman Marcus, ordered 1,200 of them!
Decades later, Ralph’s net worth is estimated at north of eight billion (USD). And if you haven’t already guessed, Ralph changed his name Ralph Lifshitz to Ralph Lauren.
