On April 1, 1979, Andreas Mihavecz, an 18-year-old bricklayer's apprentice in Austria, was mistakenly placed in a holding cell following a car accident (where he had been the passenger). Bewilderingly, he was completely forgotten about by the three police officers responsible for him. Each officer wrongly assumed that one of the others had released Mihavecz, even ignoring his concerned mother's pleas when she realized he hadn't returned home.

Mihavecz's cell was in the basement of the jail, making his cries for help unheard. To survive, he resorted to drinking condensed water from the walls and lost a staggering 53 pounds! It wasn't until 18 days later, that an officer, who had unrelated business in the basement, discovered him in shocking condition.

In the ensuing criminal trial, the three policemen pointed fingers at each other. They were ultimately fined 2,000 EUR due to a lack of conclusive evidence of criminal neglect or determining the primary culprit.

That said, while we have your attention, Jeanne Agius is looking for an Accounting Manager for her client’s organization located in Brantford, Ontario. This individual will focus on providing high-quality accounting, assurance, and consulting services for clients. POSITION: ACCOUNTING MANAGER LOCATION: BRANTFORD, ONTARIO (3 DAYS IN OFFICE) INDUSTRY: CONSUMER SERVICES RESPONSIBILITIES:

§ Guide a growing team of 5-7, fostering collaboration, achievement, and a positive work environment.

§ Plan + oversee + coordinate finance activities + accounting functions + identify areas for improvement.

§ Coordinate, prepare, review, and present monthly and annual reports.

§ Analyze financial results for profitability and compliance.

§ Hire, train, retain, and develop the accounting team – embracing career path planning.

§ Ensure alignment with Canadian GAAP, manage regulatory reporting, external audit activities, tax planning, and compliance.

§ Project and track budgets, manage cash flow, and produce relevant reports.

§ Oversee all transactions related to the general ledger, payments, and employee payroll.

§ Foster relationships with insurance providers and ensure compliance.

REQUIREMENTS:

§ Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.

§ CPA, CMA, or CA designation (preferred).

§ 5+ years’ experience including leadership within the finance function of a service industry.

§ Mastery of accounting controls, Google Sheets, QuickBooks, and similar tools.

§ Strategic thinking, resilience, and a commitment to excellence.

§ Strong collaboration skills, in line with their strategic goals.

REMUNERATION:

SALARY: $80,000 – $90,000 MBO: $10,000 – $12,000 OTHER: benefits + 2 days WFH + vacation
