On January 17, 1920, the United States enacted a nationwide ban on alcohol.
Their goal was to curb the social chaos associated with alcohol consumption.
Over the next 13 years, the crackdown would spark a wave of ingenuity, with a hidden network of clever workarounds emerging to bypass the law and thrive in the shadows.
One of the most ingenious came from grape farmers. They began producing dense, semi-solid grape concentrates, known as "wine bricks." Sold with a cunning disclaimer – "Do not dissolve in water and store in a jug for twenty days, as it will turn into wine". These bricks became a wink and a nod to those who knew how to bend the rules.
These wine bricks became an underground sensation, providing a lifeline for grape farmers struggling to survive under Prohibition's grip!
